ai designs Hawaii is the eclectic and creative expression of hand-craft artisan, Andree Fallas.

 

Born and raised between Kealia, Kauai and Hawi on the big island of Hawaii, she attributes her artistic, creative and technical skill to her parents. Her father was a businessman, calligrapher and scholar and mother a teacher and force to be reckoned with. Both very creative and artistic.

 

As a girl of 12 years old, she began sewing her own clothes. In high school, she created and made costumes for the McKinley Theatre Group and went on to acquire some formal skills from several Hawaiian clothing designers like June Bug and Prism Designs, started by Amos Kotomori and Doreen Arizumi. She was able to learn about pattern making, designing and the fashion and clothing industry.

 

During her college years she indulged in all interests and continued to make clothing and bikinis and do alterations independently and started crocheting, painting, crafting and writing including doing promotions for artists, dancers and musicians.

She opened her own shop, Ai Knit Bikinis that evolved into an artisans gallery, Ai Designs and included local artisans work.

She has produced costumes for Kalapana, Henry Kapono, Mid-Pacific Academy and in more recent years for the Big Island Groove Band, Big Island Swing Band, Kanaka Swing Band  and most excitingly, for the Na Kane Men of Paradise Show where she was also the stage/tour manager.

 

Her personal quest has been to perpetuate Hawaiian artisan and musical culture; make beautiful things; give joy; and make people feel good through music and the arts.
